Most of the communication is carried out by electromagnetism which is a combined effect of Electricity and magnetism. When current flows through wire around a piece of iron, the iron becomes magnetised. This happens because a magnetic field or magnetic force is created around the wire. This phenomena of creation and control of magnetic field by electricity is called as Electro magnetism.
A simple electromagnet can be made easily. A circular piece of magnet is taken and copper coil is wounded around the magnet. One end of copper coil of wire is connected to positive terminal of a battery. Another end of copper coil of wire is connected to negative terminal of the battery through a switch. Once the switch is turned on, current flows through the coil and creates magnetic field. If you turn the switch off, magnetic field collapses.
A familiar and a basic electric motor uses electro magnet for its function.
